Dr. Tillmann has been a legal practitioner in German and international commercial law for many years. He is admitted to the bar in Germany. Dr. Tillmann began his career as a lawyer in a reputable U.S. law firm. He later went in-house in an executive position at a privately held bank before becoming head of legal at Erste Abwicklungsanstalt (so-called bad bank of former WestLB). His work for Erste Abwicklungsanstalt, which inherited a widely spread portfolio of U.S. assets from WestLB, pertains mainly to steering and monitoring litigation in all relevant U.S. states in the area of commercial litigation, Life Settlements as well as (international) arbitration cases. The job in a public law agency carries along a particular challenge to conduct litigation to the utmost extent in a risk-free and cost transparent manner. One focus of Dr. Tillmann’s practice is, thus, the structuring and negotiating of financing and innovative fee structures with law firms, litigation funders and carriers (Legal Finance).
